The Southbank Institute of TAFE, Queensland, Australia and the Institute of Hotel Management, Bangalore have signed a MoU, on Tuesday, 14th September 2004 at the ITC Windsor Sheraton & Towers, Bangalore.

The MoU was signed by Dr. C S Kedar IAS, Chairman, IHMB and Mr. Craig Sherrin, Director, Southbank Institute, in the presence of Mr. Peter Beattie Hon’ble Premier of the State of Queensland, Australia. Also present at the ceremony were, Former Premier of Queensland, Australia, Her Excellency, Ms. Penelope, Australian High Commissioner to India, Ms. Heather Beattie, Associate Professor, Mr. M V Balachandar, Director, IHMB and Mr. Vinay Luthra IFS, MD, Jungle Lodges & Resorts, Govt. of Karnataka

The MoU between Southbank Institute and IHMB will enable knowledge sharing by student and faculty exchange programs in the area of tourism and hospitality training. It also will help to provide vocational education and training of an international standard. This will establish and provide a framework for further collaboration between the institutes for mutual enrichment in academics and international exposure and training.

IHM, Bangalore has been the forerunner in the field of hospitality offering wide spectrum of course viz. B.Sc (Hospitality & Hotel Administration), M.Sc in Hospitality Administration. The institute has already been awarded the “Best Tourism Educational Institute” by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Tourism, for the year 2003. The institute is also coming up with an Executive Development Center (EDC) with a Project grant of Rs. 500 lakhs from the Govt. of India. The EDC will have state of art facilities for training and research in the hospitality sector with Organization Based Programs / Executive Development Programs, Continuing education, Refresher Programs for Senior executives and faculty of Hotel Management Institutes. Also the institute has plans to tie up with Management institutes of repute in Europe and USA in Hospitality and Tourism education.
